HUG meets again on Monday, March 2 from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Celtic Corner Pub.

We had a great turnout at last month’s birthday bash and we’d like to see everyone again and maybe add a few more.

Bring a uke. Bring a friend. (Don’t worry if you can’t find one, come along anyway. We usually have a few spares lying around.)

James Hill CD Launch concert

If you haven’t heard yet, there will be a show at the Marigold Theatre in Truro, Saturday 28 February,  as a preview launch of James Hill and Anne Davidson’s new CD True Love Don’t Weep.  There will be guests on stage, including Chalmers Doane and John Kavanagh.

Songs of life, death, love, longing, and jubilation alongside some of the hottest ukulele instrumentals ever recorded. Recorded in Halifax, Nova Scotia, True Love Don’t Weep is an eclectic yet cohesive offering of tunes new and old, original and re-discovered. Poignant songs are punctuated by quicksilver instrumentals and raucous sing-a-longs, much of it recorded live-off-the-floor. Ukulele, banjo, cello, voice, guitar, brass and winds entwine through 12 tracks that resonate unabashedly with bluegrass, old-time, dixieland, gospel, and blues influences. James and Anne, having first met at university, have since become personal and creative partners, stealing hearts at music festivals both at home and abroad. Their live performances are mix of storytelling, feats of virtuosity, spontaneous sing-a-longs, and haunting vocal harmonies. True Love Don’t Weep, their much-anticipated debut as a duo, captures the intensity, exuberance, and playfulness of their live performances.
